Building Confidence

We all want to be confident… To be able to handle ourselves in any situation and overcome any obstacles that are in our way.

This comes much easier for some than it does for others. So what is it that the seemingly naturally confident people do differently?

Firstly you have to understand that confidence comes from within. External factors, such as likes on social media or praise given from your peers is great but doesn’t build a strong foundation for your confidence.

To build this foundation you have to feel as though you are competent. 

Some tips you can try to start feeling competent and building your confidence include:

Look at what you’ve already achieved.

Make a list of all the things that you’re proud of in your life. No matter how small you think it might be you should write it down.

Refer to this list whenever you are feeling down or don’t feel like you are where you want to be.

Recognise your talents.

We all have things that we are good at. The problem is it’s not always easy to recognise what those things might be.

Sit down and think about what things you are good at either naturally or through hard work.

Set some goals.

Set some goals and work towards achieving them. They don’t have to be massive goals to start out, just choose something that you would like to accomplish and work towards it.

As you start to tick things off your list you’ll begin to feel a sense of achievement and feel as though you are competent in following through with tasks that you’ve set yourself.

Each time you reach one of your goals allow yourself time to celebrate before setting some new goals.

Practice positive self talk.

Do you go around talking down to everyone to meet? I highly doubt it. Then why would you talk to yourself that way.

Start recognising when you are engaging in negative self talk and begin to twist it into a positive light. Start to even talk yourself up. Not in a cocky way, but in a way that reinforces that you’re a confident individual that can handle themselves no matter what life throws their way.

Start eating healthy and exercising.

This is how people grow their confidence through exercise and healthy living.  As they start to notice positive changes they start to feel confident and competent knowing that they are achieving something worth while.

There is so much more to healthy living that just losing fat or gaining muscle. The positive effects quickly spread into other areas of your life and have a huge compounding effect.
