Enjoy The Journey
“It is good to have an end to journey toward; but it is the journey that matters, in the end.” – Ernest Hemingwa
Many times we find ourselves so fixated on an outcome that we neglect everything that is happening around us along the way. Only to finally reach our goal and not feel as satisfied as we thought we would.
Its very easy to think “ill be happy when i’m x weight”, or “when i have x amount of dollars in the bank”. Then when you finally reach your milestone, you’re already thinking about the next pinnacle that you need to reach before you are “happy”.
Whether your goals are to do with finance, health, relationships or your career its important to have an awareness of the process.
One way to be able to sit back and enjoy your current situation is to show gratitude. Gratitude can be a very powerful tool and when practised daily can have a significant effect on your general happiness.
Once a week at the end of the week, write down a list of 3 things that you are grateful for and why. Shift your focus to one of abundance not scarcity.
Remember not to take it all too seriously. Life is supposed to be enjoyed. Just because you have serious goals doesn’t mean you can’t have fun trying to achieve them.
If you suffer a set back, try to laugh at the situation instead of becoming angry. In the real world, almost nothing seems to go to plan. Sometimes you have to just roll with the punches and keep a positive outlook on the situation.
Focus on the small victories
By reminding yourself how far you have already come and celebrating the small wins along the way you will feel a sense of achievement.
You may not be where you want to be yet but its good to know that you are on the right path.
Unfortunately we have been conditioned to see mistakes as failures. This is a redundant way of thinking and doesn’t serve us in any way. The next time you make a mistake view it as an opportunity to learn. Why did i make this mistake? How can i do things differently next time?
By seeing situation as a chance to learn and grow you won’t feel disheartened when you come across one of the many inevitable road blocks that come with working towards a goal.
Take your time
Life isn’t a race to see who can get to the end the fastest. Anything worth achieving will not happen over night. Give yourself some space and don’t focus on what everyone else is going.
Follow the above points and you will notice that the journey will be a lot more pleasurable and you may even reach your goals quicker than you thought.
